The recommended weekly allowance is your child’s age. For example, an eight-year-old should earn around $8 per week.

What Type of Account Should I Open for my Child?
One of the first steps to get your child started down a healthy financial path is to open their first savings account. Here are the two account types you can open for your child:

  • Custodial: With this account, only one adult (the custodian) can be named on the account. The custodian must be present any time a withdrawal is made. Both the custodian and your child can make deposits any time. Once your child reaches a mature age, the custodian can decide to change the account to a joint account, or an account only in the child’s name.
  • Joint (with or without restrictions): With this account, more than one adult can be named on the account, and all parties (including the child) can make deposits and withdrawals. You can choose to place restrictions on the account so that you have more control over the account. (For example, you could only allow your child to make withdrawals for less than $25).
Saving made Fun
The Koala Klub is a special savings account exclusively for kids age 0-12. Kids can earn prizes for saving and participate in special Koala Klub events. Stop in and open a Koala Klub account for your child today.
